During the Illinois Legislature’s lame-duck session, Senate Bill 1480 passed in Springfield and is currently being reviewed by the Governor. The legislation focuses on 2 central topics that will impact employers throughout Illinois. There will be new burdens and mandates that will require most employers to obtain an “Equal Pay Certificate” issued by the State of Illinois as well as requiring employers with 100 or more employees to file information with the State of Illinois similar to the information required to be reported to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission via the EEO-1 Report. Violation of this new provision of the Equal Pay is 1% of gross profits. The enforcing agency, IDOL, has no discretion or flexibility to adjust --- which could bury Illinois businesses. While the legislation is intended to help minority workers obtain work and better job opportunities in Illinois, the legislation now awaiting the Governor’s review creates new burdens on employers that will substantially change how employers recruit, hire, terminate and pay its workers throughout Illinois. This 90-minute webinar will be presented by Labor & Employment Attorney, Jeff Risch, and will focus on SB 1480’s Equal Pay & Related Reporting mandates. Attorney Risch has been intimately involved in the legislative process with the Illinois Chamber of Commerce and will identify exactly what employers need to know and implement in response to the new mandates.
