Feeling sad or depressed is a normal reaction to life’s challenges. But when intense feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, or worthlessness last for many days, there may be something more.

Professor Andrew Solomon the acclaimed author of The Noonday Demon, winner of the National Book Award and a Pulitzer Prize finalist, returns to GPS to eloquently describe the agony of depression – as well as the reasons for hope.

By examining his own life story and the experiences of others who have battled depression, we learn of the daily struggle, the challenge of defining depression, the cultural denial, and the fears often associated with the seeking of treatment. Participants will learn the wide range of available drug treatments, the efficacy of alternative treatments, and their impact. This presentation will enlighten and inform all about the reality of depression through its many layers. Dr Solomon’s contributions to this arena will illuminate our understanding not only of mental illness but also of the human condition. This presentation is not to be missed!
